Human authenticity in the age of AI agents

Humanly Lab studies how human agency, authorship, and responsibility remain visible when people work with AI. We turn that research into configurable, traceable, and verifiable systems.

Human authenticity is not the absence of AI.

It is the ability to understand how work was produced, what people contributed, and how AI participated.

Evidence over inference

Outputs alone cannot reliably reveal how work was produced. We build systems that preserve process evidence instead of relying on post-hoc guesses.

Transparency over prohibition

AI will be part of more creative and intellectual work. Its role should be visible and governed, not hidden or treated as automatically disqualifying.

Human agency at the center

Technology should make people's decisions, revisions, and responsibility legible, even when AI contributes to the result.

Who we are

We are a research-led team working across UT Austin, University of Toronto, and Stanford University. We combine research and engineering to turn this mission into systems people can use.
